Wednesday 31st October, 7.30pm

Tickets £5, book here. Cost of ticket is deductible from a copy of the book on the evening. One ticket per book.

Jacqui Smith was MP for Redditch from 1997-2010, a government Minister and the UK’s first female Home Secretary.  With Iain Dale, she has edited a series of profiles of every women elected to Parliament between 1918 and1996 written by other women.

With female contributors from Mary Beard to Caroline Lucas, Ruth Davidson to Yvette Cooper and Margaret Beckett to Ann Widdecombe, The Honourable Ladies is an indispensable and illuminating testament to the stories and achievements of these remarkable women.  The book includes inside stories about well known women like Margaret Thatcher, Barbara Castle and Mo Mowlem, but you’ll also learn about the unknown heroines who campaigned for women’s rights and were the pioneers of women’s representation in the UK parliament.

In this event, Jacqui will tell some of the stories and pick out some of the key themes.  She will answer questions about the book and about her own political career – including what it was like to have a Bodyguard!
